I suffer from a severe auto-immune disorder that affects my stress tolerance, fatigue, cognition, immune system, nervous system, and digestion.

Every day with my disability is a struggle to keep up with chores and routines. I rely on routine and stability to keep my health stable.

I use MyFitnessPal for tracking my eating - have done for five years - paid.
A month ago they forced an update out on users - seems at first they picked cohorts of users to "trial" it on - and then have progressively rolled it out.

In my case, I had woken up in the morning and was going through my routines, when I was suddenly confroted with a version of MFP that was completely different to what I was used to.
I had no warning it was coming, and was unable to use it to manage my daily health routines, and have not been able to do so to date (Nov 7 2025)
The surprise and sudden rug-pull of a years long health support tool caused me significant stress and materially affected both my mental and physical health.

The update is completely broken. It is slow AF - to the point of being unusable.
They have "upgraded" the functionality to require 10x as many clicks/touches for no apparent reason, and are passing it off as a "thoughtful upgrade"

Most of all - they elected to push an update out that is a complete rewrite, but it's missing many of the apps core features.

Many people, like me, rely on these as part of their daily health management routines.
To simply rug pull critical functionality to subscribing customers is so disrespectful.

To make it worse, as can be seen on their subreddit, there is broad disapproval and reporting of how bad the update is, but there is a significant gaslighting campaign being used to try to user blame, or deflect about the update.

They categorically refuse to roll it back until it is propely implemented.
They offer "workarounds" to the missing functionality that are not actual workarounds at all.

They promise the missing features are "coming soon", but refuse to give any dates or take responsibility, meanwhile their users are unable to use the app for what they paid for.

They have given refunds to people who have recently subscribed, but others they flatly refuse based on policy "past refund period" for people who are subscribed annually, like me.

Instead they reply with gaslighting support messages about fake work arounds, blaming on user devices, and pushing to participate in "support tickets" - which they just ignore - but also which are basically them using their paid userbase as beta testers.

The icing on the cake?
The new UI, for PAID subscribers, now permanently advertises upgrading to a new tier of subscription they have invented.

Look at the gaslighting:

We understand that program changes can be unexpected, especially when you’ve built a routine you enjoy. From time to time, we make updates to improve our programs and overall MyFitnessPal experience.

  • complete lack of communication prior to change -> "We understand it can be unexpected"
  • severe regression in features and performance -> "program changes"
  • framing the apps use as critical routines for many users as "preference" -> "routine you enjoy"

It's also worth noting that it's clear that the new UI vs the old are hidden behind feature toggles - which is what has allowed them to roll out in "trial segments"

They exist side by side in the current version of the app deployed.

This means the original interface can simply be turned back on programattically - and users report this happens if they unsubscrube... it goes back to the original interface.

This means there is no technical reason they can't roll back under the intense negative feedback while they get the new UI up to scratch - the only reason is they don't want to.

Here is my intereaction with MFP support via email:

Since the new MFP Android update, I have been completely unable to use MFP - the interface is just slow, freezes, and I am unable to use it the way I originally could, copying meals from further back than just the day before.

It is no longer fit for purpose for my use and the features I require daily have been retracted with no dates given for them being reintegrated - and even if they were, the interface is so slow and laggy its unusable anyway.

I need a refund back for the portion of my subscription that has not been used yet please. I have only used about seven months of my yearly subscription (repaid last March 6 2025 NZT) - so I expect a refund back of the remainder.

Thank you.

Hi there,

Thank you very much for taking the time to reach out to MyFitnessPal Premium support and share your feedback about our new Today view.

This update represents one of the most significant transformations MyFitnessPal has undergone since its inception, and we understand that not all changes will resonate with every user. We’re so sorry for any frustration this has caused.

For copying past foods logged, we’re working on integrating new and easy ways to copy those items that you have on a day to day basis to your current and other days. At the moment, we recommend creating a Saved Meal for easy and quick logging of sets of items. The foods and drinks you’ve logged in the past should also show in your History as you start to log in a meal. Keep an eye out for updates and new features to make this even faster.

We're working hard to make MyFitnessPal the best it can be, so thank you for the great feedback. We will be passing this along to the team for future consideration.

We understand that program changes can be unexpected, especially when you’ve built a routine you enjoy. From time to time, we make updates to improve our programs and overall MyFitnessPal experience.

We'd be happy to troubleshoot any issues you may be having with the app loading slowly or freezing, as these are not expected behaviors with the new update.

However, because your request falls outside of our refund period, we’re unable to issue a refund at this time. We truly appreciate your understanding and your continued commitment to your health journey.

If you’d like, we can help you make the most of the updated program via further troubleshooting and/or we can help to walk you through any new features. Please let us know how we can help.

Kind regards,

Fix the problems. I am not interested in work arounds that don't work, like making saved meals, which you well know doesn't replace the removed functionality and is widely reported on your subreddit to not work as a fit for purpose work around.

Not interested in boilerplate canned replies. Not interested in you trying to reframe a gutting of app functionality as "app changes" They are not changes. They are a downgrade.

I am not interested in being your beta tester and trouble shooting with you. Test your app on your own testers before forcing it on long term paid users.
